EIRA 5G Hothouse

The EIRA Digital Creative team held it’s first EIRA Hothouse at BT’s Adastral Park last week. This event gave local artists, creative freelancers and organisations interested in live performance the chance to come together and investigate how new 5G technologies can bring benefits to their business and innovate their artistic practice.

EIRA invited digital creative organisations from across the region (East Sussex, Kent, Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough), including theatre companies, creative directors, dance companies, musicians and performed spoken word artists to be part of this unique and inspiring event. There were VR demos from AOE , a virtual ‘walk the plank’ experience with Toast VR , local artist Jane Pitt’s Sound Mirrors and presentations from academics and creative businesses who are researching and adopting VR, AR and MR technology.

You can watch a short video showing highlights from the day here:

The day was well spent with many oppportunities to network and tour BT’s premises. Early feedback has been overwhelmingly postive, with delegates praising the facilities, quality of the presentations on offer and the possibilities to collaborate.

“Refreshing and lively mix of artists and technologists sharing their practice, knowledge and potential for future collaborations.”

“The 5G hothouse gave me the opportunity to see my current projects in context of digital creative thinking in a variety of fields and to think through the applications of the technology to enrich life through creative interventions making use of the tech.”

We’d like to say a big thank you to BT for hosting this event, our speakers for delivering exciting and thought-provoking talks and for everyone who took part in the day.
