Healthy Ageing: Research to Application

On Tuesday 9th July, EIRA hosted the Healthy Ageing: Research to Application conference at the Wellcome Collection, London.

The event offered a fascinating insight into the research and products being developed to promote healthy ageing. Featuring speakers from across the EIRA network, industry and funders, the conference demonstrated some of the cutting edge research into the technology being utilised to help our ageing population live longer, healthier and fuller lives. It was also an opportunity for professionals from higher education institutions, businesses and other organisations aligned with healthy ageing to come together and  network with like-minded people, opening up the possibilities of future discussion and collaboration.

The conference was attended by over 90 professionals from across the EIRA network and beyond, with speakers from UEA, the University of Kent, the University of Essex, Alzheimer’s Society and the History of Advertising Trust. The EIRA Director, Dr. Kirstie Cochrane and the Head of Health from the KTN, Terry O’Neill also delivered presentations on funding opportunities available to academics and businesses. The event was split into presentations, networking time and a closing panel discussion, with the newly appointed Director of Eastern ARC, Phil Ward, chairing the event throughout.

Some feedback we’ve received about the event from attendees includes:

I was at the event last week and found it very engaging. I think the conference accurately reflected the fact that tech will need to play a large part in this if we are to weather the coming storm (and I do believe it will be a storm). Much needs to be done to raise people’s awareness of what is happening and what options are available and I commend EIRA for arranging this event.” – Trudy Sore, Bluenovation

Firstly, the organisation of the whole day was excellent – both efficient and friendly. Very good catering too. Secondly, the opportunities to network were really helpful, and I enjoyed the opportunity to meet a range of people from other EIRA universities, and external parties who were really engaged and interesting. The speakers were dedicated and fascinating.” – Katherine Powis, University of Essex

Thank you for an excellent event yesterday- I thought it was well-organised, interesting and particularly valuable for networking!” – Elizabeth Duxbury, University of East Anglia
